Impact-Rated Doors – Impact Patio Doors in Florida
Ensure your Florida condo is protected with the benefits of:

SPECIALIZED STORM PROTECTION
If you have a high-rise condo in coastal Florida, your sliding glass or French doors are at risk! During a hurricane or other severe storm, high velocity winds are a major threat to patios and balconies. Flying debris driven by wind and water can cause major damage if you do not have impact-rated doors installed. This is why we provide high-quality storm-proof sliding glass doors, which provide the extra defense you need. Add strength, safety, and value to your home or beach-area condo with our impact patio doors in Florida.
BETTER DAMAGE PREVENTION
Unsightly storm shutters or panels are not necessary with our storm-proof doors or impact patio doors, even in coastal Florida’s most intense hurricane zones. The storm-proof sliding glass doors we install are made of strong and durable highly specialized materials, reinforced to withstand extreme Florida weather, yet attractive, functional and easy to maintain. Traditional Florida hurricane impact doors, shutters, and panels don’t provide the same high-level protection that laminated impact resistant glass does. What is Impact Glass?
Impact glass is specially engineered with a plastic-like laminate layer bonded within the panes. This hybrid multi-layer fabrication process adds exceptional strength and flexibility. Even if your balcony or patio gets a direct hit from debris during a heavy storm and the glass breaks, the interior laminate layer bonds the shattered pieces together. Because of this unique property, our impact-resistant sliding glass doors in Florida prevent damage and injury, while also keeping water, debris, and wind out of your house. Impact-rated doors and windows are also energy efficient and can even be tinted just like traditional glass. Our hurricane impact doors are also available in sliding, folding, and French doors to fit any style.
How does Impact Glass Provide Superior Protection?
In the event of high-winds, traditional sliding or French entryways on high-rise condos can be easily broken by high-velocity flying projectiles. Sharp pieces fly everywhere. Water, more flying debris, and wind can get inside your home causing further damage. Even storm shutters and panels only provide limited protection, since they can be blown off in high winds. The laminate layer embedded in the impact glass is what provides a higher level of safety and security during a storm. Even after the storm is over, the panes of your hurricane impact doors will remain completely intact, even if the glass itself is broken.
Exceptional strength and flexibility are also important properties. The vacuum created from intense air pressure changes during a storm can cause massive structural damage, such as blowing off the roof or even portions of buildings. It’s a myth that opening your windows during a severe storm or hurricane can prevent this air pressure build-up. Impact-resistant door glass bends and flexes as the wind and air pressure fluctuates. Advanced engineering allows flexibility of several inches in or out as the air pressure changes during a storm to prevent parts of your home, including the roof, from being pulled off and blown away.

Why have Our Storm-Impact Doors Installed in your Florida Condo?
Florida Building Code requires hurricane-proof glass.
The Florida Building Code (FBC) requires that homeowners within one mile of the coast have hurricane sliding doors installed in their home. During a hurricane, wind speeds can reach 110 mph or greater in these areas, and necessitate the higher level of protection provided by laminated impact glass. Even outside of the mandated area, the FBC recommends homeowners install hurricane impact doors where severe weather frequently occurs. Our Miami Dade-certified impact-rated doors also add resale value on any home, and may even lower insurance premiums in certain areas.
Durable Craftsmanship and Installation
The craftsmanship of balcony and patio door framework material is also important to consider because these doorways are subjected to heavy use. Nothing is more irritating than a slider that sticks or jams. When we install our storm doors, we use quality hardware and a non-wood water proof barrier system around the door jams, sills, seals and splines. This ensures no water can infiltrate underneath or around the edges. You are getting not only the highest quality products, but the highest level of quality installation services with FWDS.
Added Security Against Break-ins
Your patio and balcony doors are vulnerable to more than storms. The unique properties of this state-of-the-art glass technology also provide extra security and protection from intruders breaking into and entering your condo. Even if a rock or other heavy object is thrown directly at the glass, the extra strength and shatterproof properties prevent break-ins. Keep your family safe and your home secure.
Why Buy Your Hurricane Impact Doors from Us?
Don’t trust your coastal impact-rated door installation to just anyone! With 20 years of experience working with high-rise condo owners in the coastal Florida areas, FWDS is the only reliable choice. While most other area contractors are not licensed to work on buildings higher than two stories, we are one of the very few local companies that are licensed to work on high-rise buildings. In addition, we are specially insured for multi-story tall buildings and provide additional peace of mind with waterproofing liability.

All our hurricane impact doors come with a manufacturer’s warranty, and the installation work comes with a 10-year labor warranty and guarantee against water intrusion. The building envelope can also be warrantied, with an optional five-year re-warranty on the waterproofing. Other companies simply can’t offer their customers the same level of high-quality installation and warranty protection.
